Elderly couple beaten by settlers

Today the BBC website had an article about an elderly Palestinian couple and their nephew from the village of Susiya south of Hebron being beaten by settlers. Accompanying the article is a bit of video showing the beginning of the attack. It is not a great video, but it is shocking to see strong young men, faces covered and wielding bats, base enough to beat a 70 year old man and a 68 year old woman. They were attacked for grazing their goats too close to an Israeli settlement. It is a shame that the BBC didn't mention that the family has papers to show they own the land or that they are living in tents because their homes have been bulldozed repeatedly, according to joy_in_palestine's account.

So glad you posted on the Marrakech blog.
We were so happy living in Marrakech but felt it too selfish to stay when Robert's mother needs us.
I was always resolutely a-political in my blog - it was mostly about how super Marrakech is.
This is not to say I don't have pretty strong opinions about things.......
I feel that the current situation is terribly sad and that the Palestinians are getting a very raw deal indeed. The American press is often ill-informed and the pro-Israeli lobby very strong indeed. But I do feel that if the public were better informed with less biased information they would be more sympathetic to the Palestinian people. SAD SAd SAD.

Thank you both for commenting. It is so sad really that the American public really has so little clue about what the situation here is really like. It always amazes me that the US so blindly supports a state that has policies that are so antithetical to American ideals.

Elizabeth, I will really miss your pictures of Morocco, but of course your reasons for leaving are understandable. Hopefully you can take a little of those glorious Moroccan colors with you to New York.
