Pomegranates

And it is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby the growth of all things. We produce from it greenery from which We produce grains arranged in layers. And from the palm trees - of its emerging fruit are clusters hanging low. And [We produce] gardens of grapevines and olives and pomegranates, similar yet varied. Look at [each of] its fruit when it yields and [at] its ripening. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe. Al-Anaam 6:99
The pomegranate trees in my yard are blooming. Since I grew up in Pennsylvania, I always thought of pomegranates as a strange and exotic fruit, and they have a strange and exotic flower too.
The buds open into a hard base for the flower, as hard as cardboard or wood, and the petals look like bright orange crepe paper.Pomegranates are mentioned 3 times in the Qur'an. Surah ar-Rahman says they are one of the fruits in the gardens of paradise. When the flower is finished, the petals fall off, and the base begins to swell, growing into the fruit. And He it is who causes gardens to grow, [both] trellised and untrellised, and palm trees and crops of different [kinds of] food and olives and pomegranates, similar and dissimilar. Eat of [each of] its fruit when it yields and give its due [zakah] on the day of its harvest. And be not excessive. Indeed, He does not like those who commit excess. Al-Anaam 6:141

Assalaamu 'alaikum,

I am sorry brother, but I am not really comfortable with the idea of beginning a private dialog with a man I don't know. But welcome to my little blog.

I am sorry brother, but I am quite sure I can't help you with that. I didn't publish your comment because you had your email address in it. May Allah subhana wa ta'ala guide you to what will be best for you in this life and the next.

Salaam 3alaikum sister,

Thanks for your post on my blog!

I love the photographs in your blog. It is hard to get a taste of what life is like in Palestine in the US, and that is mainly why I wanted to link you in my blog. Keep up the awesome photo essays, alhamdulillah.

Salaams,
Kay

nicole: If you get one, be warned that it needs a little pruning each year because it tends to grow like a bush rather than as a tree. It's pretty as a bush too though. And it is a bit thorny, so don't plant it where you would have to brush past it all the time.

ahmad: Thank you for your du'as.

safiyya: Yes, all the photos of flowers on the blog are mine. Kind of an obsession of mine.

kay: Thank you again.

Hmm... none of you like capital letters. Every one wants to be e e cummings
