who's afraid of airport security these days?

The last time I flew anywhere was 1994. The world has changed a lot since then, and every time I read about a Muslim having trouble with airport security, I get more nervous about the idea of trying to get on a plane again. Not that I am likely to try it any time soon. I know that certain security measures have to be taken, after all I don't want to get on a plane with any crazies either, but sometimes the security folks go overboard.

Read Tunisianbelle's post Muslim While Flying, for her upsetting experience. This is the first time I have seen her blog, which I found via Global Voices.

My father-in-law (over 70 and ill) traveled to New York on the weekend. He was kept for 6 hours by the immigration folks! All because they were checking on him and his 15 year old grandson. Mind you my in-laws go to NY and CA EVERY summer, so its not even the threat of some newby entering the country.

Airport security has become very annoying.. even here in saudi, when you are traveling you are checked by female security (I stills believe most of them are Lesbians), as they feel you a little too much!

Update.. I was informed later that they were held for nearly 9 hours at immigration.. ! OUCH!

I hope all is well with you.. I haven't seen new posts by you!

Nine hours is just awful. A friend of mine who lives here went to the US recently, but she didn't have any exceptional problems, despite the fact that she and her daughter wear hijab, so I guess it is not always a problem.

Not only have I not been blogging, but I have barely touched the computer for days. First of all because my oldest son has moved back home and we are now sharing the good computer for 7 people. My kids argue over it all the time. (I am on my poky Pentium one now) Our water was also off for 3 days in a row, so I have been hauling buckets a lot lately. The good news is that I finally managed to fix the pump for the cistern all by my self. I got tired of waiting for some man to do it! And my sister sent me some pretty summery fabric to make my self a few cool dresses, so I have been spending my free time sewing.
